i think this is my favorite age so far. i love the things ziggy says and that i'm able to explain things to him without him freaking out. i like that he can unbuckle himself out of the car and close the car door himself and that he kisses my belly randomly. just before 4 is such a nice age.

happy valentine's
got home from ziggy's taekwondo class yesterday and found a beautiful new iMac and some tulips. what a surprise! ziggy immediately sat down and took this picture on photo booth while i called mark to tell him happy we were. i love it.

considered
i read this while getting my blood drawn at my 3 hour glucose test and found it quite inspirational. everyone works at their own pace, mark is special.
activity shelf
i set up the living room with fun activity trays for ziggy. i've been inspired by shelf set ups at montessori schools but the activities are all things ziggy finds enjoyable. he's very careful about picking up the trays and putting them on the table and returning them back to the shelf. 1. catfishing: fishing rod made with wooden stick, string and a metal nut and cat magnets.
2. put the beans to bed: round watercolor tray, dried kidney beans and chopsticks. put the beans in each section of the tray with chopsticks.
3. clock puzzle
4. water and bottles. a glass of water to pour in different shaped bottles with a funnel.
5. black paper, white out tape and tiny red gem stickers
6. dropper with colored water to drop into a watercolor tray
7. nesting puzzle
8. shoelace or pipecleaner with beads.
not so successful activities:
lacing a cardboard truck
coloring book with tracing paper
spooning black beans into a watercolor tray

preschool evaluation
we had a parent teacher conference with his preschool class and it was in-ter-es-ting. the teacher is concerned that when they call his name, he doesn't respond, or when they ask all the kids to stand up, he's still sitting until someone specifically says his name. she is worried that he is not processing direction/instruction and wants us to get him evaluated. it's really stressful especially because as his parents, we know his personality and honestly don't feel there is a problem there other than a little bit of "spacecase-itis." the only thing we can do is get him evaluated to see if there is something there. it's frustrating and makes me want to change schools a little bit.
tae kwon do
ziggy's been attending taekwondo for about a month now. he goes twice a week and most of the time hates going. he's learning korean and battle skills. i personally like watching him do the sit ups. hahahaha
new york, new york
we took mark's mom up to NYC for an overnight trip for her birthday. ziggy enjoyed it so much he didn't want to leave. he's definitely a city boy and prefers it to nature trips like yosemite. when we were heading home in the car, he looked at the skyline and said "goodbye new york, i'll miss you!"
first dentist
ziggy went to the dentist for the first time. we chose a pediatric office and i think it made our trip a success! the waiting room and office was a child's dream land and they technician was so good with ziggy. he can't wait to go back in july. some helpful tips they told us: brush in a circle, stand behind him rather than in front of him while brushing so the motion feels more natural, floss if the teeth are touching each other, don't ask them to open so wide since it's easier to brush the sides of his teeth when his mouth is relaxed, chocolate is better for your teeth than gummies and fruit snacks.
